Below you will also find the members of our board, a dedicated group of professionals committed to supporting and guiding the center’s mission. With diverse backgrounds, each board member brings a wealth of expertise and a shared passion for improving the well-being of our community.

  • Brian Martin

    LPC, Executive Director

    Brian Martin, LPC, has served as Executive Director of the Community Counseling Center since August 2018. He holds a Bachelor’s from Goshen College (2011) and a Master’s in Counseling from Eastern Mennonite University (2013). With experience in intensive in-home counseling for at-risk children, he now focuses on adult therapy using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and other modalities. Brian is particularly interested in the relationship between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors in improving mental health. He enjoys guiding the Center to meet community needs. Outside work, he enjoys running, reading, and time with loved ones.

  • Jamie Hiner

    LPC

    Jamie Hiner is a licensed professional counselor and has been a part of the Harrisonburg community for over a decade. Jamie has a passion for working with identity exploration, sexuality, LGBTQAI+ communities, depression, and college students. She enjoys a collaborative, holistic, and integrative approach to therapy that may include expressive arts, sandtray, and traditional talk therapy. She believes in authenticity and welcomes clients to bring their full Selves into the room. Jamie continues to broaden and improve her cultural competency. Jamie enjoys time with her dog, pots of tea, long books, and trying to keep plants alive.

  • Alyssa Burkholder

    LPC

    Alyssa Burkholder is a licensed professional counselor who graduated from EMU’s Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. She works with all ages, with additional experience in adult case management. Alyssa meets with individuals, couples, and families, and occasionally leads groups. Her approach infuses interpersonal process, arts, emotion-focused grounding, and mindful self-compassion, as she strives to ensure clients feel heard and understood. Outside work, Alyssa enjoys spending time with loved ones, reading, exploring nature, cooking, and relaxing with her cat, Macchi. She also enjoys creating a fulfilling atmosphere in her sunroom office.

  • Charles Richards

    LPC

    Charles Richards, a Licensed Professional Counselor, has been with CCC since 2019. He specializes in working with children and values helping his young clients along their journey. His experience spans children and families from diverse backgrounds, and he has expanded his practice to include adults and marriage counseling. Charles uses a mix of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Client-Centered Therapy, and Behavioral Therapy. During his free time, his self-care includes spending time with his family, reading, and playing video games. He lives in Staunton with his wife and 11-year-old daughter.

  • Brendaly Santiago

    LCSW

    Brendaly is a warm and dedicated bilingual (English/Spanish) Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a rich background in community mental health. She specializes in individual, family, parenting, and group therapy, using motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, strength-based approaches, and other evidence-based practices. Her expertise extends to anger management and substance use treatment and education. Brendaly invites clients to embrace their challenges and strengths for healing and growth. As a devoted mother of a school-aged child, she treasures quality time with loved ones and enjoys both indoor and outdoor activities.

  • Laurie Whelden

    Supervisee in Social Work

    Laurie Whelden is a Supervisee in Social Work and enjoys working with people of all backgrounds and walks of life. In her therapy with individuals, couples, and families, she provides a warm and caring environment, helping clients improve their quality of life. Laurie's approach is trauma-informed, and she utilizes family systems theory, attachment theory, ego states/IFS work, self-compassion, and somatic techniques, such as havening. Laurie believes the therapeutic relationship can help support and heal every client. Outside CCC, Laurie keeps busy raising her three children, getting outside, and enjoying time with her husband, family, and friends.

  • Stormi Nuckoles

    Resident-In-Counseling

    Stormi Nuckoles, (they/them) is a Resident-In-Counseling based in Harrisonburg, Virginia. They graduated with a MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Eastern Mennonite University in 2025.  

    They work with children, adolescents, and adults. They are committed to supporting clients through a variety of concerns, including identity development, life transitions, embracing authenticity, self-acceptance, trauma, and grief. They have a particular passion for working with the LGBTQIA+ community and strive to provide a safe, affirming, and inclusive therapeutic environment.  

    When they are not seeing clients, they are usually hanging out with their five guinea pigs, playing video games, painting, or reading. 

  • Kylie Garrety

    Graduate Intern

    Kylie Garrety (she/her) is a graduate student in Eastern Mennonite University’s Master of Arts in Counseling program. She is passionate about journeying with individuals through identity exploration, anxiety, transitional life periods, and relationship challenges. Kylie has pursued specialized training in perinatal mental health and enjoys working with individuals and couples navigating pregnancy, pregnancy loss, postpartum adjustment, and the identity transitions of parenthood. Her counseling approach is grounded in systems theory, recognizing how social, cultural, and relational contexts influence mental and emotional well-being. Kylie draws from interpersonal, mindful self-compassion, trauma-informed, feminist, and experiential therapies, tailoring her approach to create a safe and supportive space for healing and growth. Outside of CCC, Kylie enjoys spending time hiking in the mountains with her family and listening to audiobooks.

  • Chelsea Jones

    Supervised Visitation Program Director

    Chelsea Jones has a passion for working with kids and families. She joined CCC as the Supervised Visitation Facilitator to provide safe and structured supervised visitations between children and non-custodial parents or family members. Chelsea works with interns to monitor interactions, protect children's well-being, and foster healthy relationships. She coordinates visitation schedules, ensures compliance with court orders, and provides reports to the court / authorities. During Chelsea's downtime, she enjoys spending time with family, and making big yarn blankets.

  • Ria Tucker

    Office Manager

    Ria Tucker is our office manager and is happy to welcome you to our space! She has been with CCC since June 2025. Ria is grateful to be here to provide support to clients and staff at CCC. She loves being outdoors and enjoying nature. Her other interests include painting, live music, gardening, and mental health. She spends most of her time with her two rescue dogs.

Board

Jim Elmore, President

Jim Elmore is the owner of Jade Consulting LLC. He previously worked in several industries as an engineer, IT Manager, Sales Manager, and director of a county water and wastewater company. As a member of the Community Counseling Board since 2004, he has served as Secretary, Treasurer, and is the current President. Jim spends his free time collaborating with his Rotary Club, reading, attending concerts and sporting events. He resides in Penn Laird.

Grant Penrod, Vice Chair

Grant Penrod is a partner at the Harrisonburg law firm of Hoover Penrod PLC.  He has served on the Board of Directors of the Community Counseling Center since 2009.  He is currently the Vice-Chair of the Board and the Center’s attorney.  As the Center’s attorney, he advises the Center, the Board, and the staff on various legal issues related to the Center and assists in responding to Subpoenas received by the Center’s therapists.  He also assists in reviewing the Center’s accounts payable.

Andy Keeler, Treasurer

Andy Keeler received a BA in Philosophy from JMU in 2007. That same year, he co-founded MODdisplays, a company that specializes in portable trade show displays and exhibit design. Since then, he has helped with strategic planning for other Harrisonburg businesses and non-profit organizations. Andy enjoys spending time with his family and friends, gardening, and cooking.

David Galgano

David Galgano is an Associate Broker at Nest Realty Harrisonburg. He assists the Executive Director in Fundraising and Outreach for the Center. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Community Counseling Center since 2019.

Tiffany Runion

Tiffany Runion is the Deputy Director of the Harrisonburg Redevelopment and Housing Authority. She returned to the Board of Directors for the Community Counseling Center in 2024 after a break for several years. She has expertise in performance management and strategic planning and is passionate about developing and preserving affordable housing in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her two cats, Linus and Cheddar, trying to keep houseplants alive, and weekend road trips.

Joe Lynch

Joe Lynch is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). He was a therapist and the Director of the Community Counseling Center from 1980-1985. He was invited to join the Board in 2017. Joe has served on the Virginia Board of Social Work (the licensing Board), and the State Human Rights Committee. He was a founding member of the Citizens Against Sexual Assault Board (now called the Collins Center), and a founding member of the Community Mediation Center Board (now called the Fairfield Center).

Akiel Baker

Akiel Baker is a school social worker with Harrisonburg City Public Schools. He has been in this role since August of 2023, supporting students and families in the community. He joined the Board of Directors for the Community Counseling Center in August of 2023.  Akiel enjoys volunteering in the community and attending local events. In his free time, he spends time with friends and his dog, Eevee, attends local sporting events, and is always looking for opportunities to learn something new.

Aaron Kishbaugh

Aaron Kishbaugh is a Platform Product Manager at Teachstone, Inc. and has worked in the tech industry for nearly 30 years, 20 of which have been spent here in the Shenandoah Valley. He holds a Master's degree in Conflict Transformation from EMU, and has also taught courses with the JMU X-Labs on community focused innovation. He joined the board in 2025, and has served on the board of the Fairfield Center and volunteered with several other organizations in Harrisonburg prior to joining the CCC. In his free time Aaron enjoys going to concerts with his family, playing music, and reading.

Sean Eggar

Sean is a Vice President of Business Development for Leidos, a large technology and innovation company. He has worked in Systems Engineering, Business Management, Program Management, and Business Development in the federal contracting industry for almost 20 years. He earned his Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech. He has lived in the Shenandoah valley for most of the past 30 years and has actively supported many local businesses as an owner, consultant, or board member. He currently lives outside of Harrisonburg Virginia with his wife and three children. Sean enjoys cooking and spending time camping and boating with his family.
